So, it works

I was working for a friend and as it went along, he felt the need to lay more and more on my plate — this, while constantly talking to me in a manner I wouldn’t have expected to a bum on the street. I was gone all of December in Chicago (not so hot when you’re married) and recently, it was decided not to pay me some money (not a trivial amount) that had been promised. To me, one’s word is one’s bond — very important — I cannot abide people that lie or go back on their word. It’s one thing to be forced to not do something you promised, but to willingly go back on your word?? Never. And then, the audacity to tell me “You made me go back on my word…” Sure, okay… Did I hold a gun to your head?? The last straw was being told that although I was on salary, if I needed a day off, it would come out of vacation or my pay. And this at working 24/7/365 and being paid 8.57 hours a day… Ludicrous! And unfair!

So, it was a mutual thing and I am much happier for it. (I feel sorry for my other friend who took the job). Now I have actual days off. Sleep at night w/ the phone not ringing whenever and having to deal w/ problems that HAD to be taken care of NOW. And yes, the ability to turn off the phone ringer is a small, simple joy I am loving! Anyway, all this, coupled w/ my not being yelled at for other people’s mistakes and not having to be a dick to my drivers is helping my health which had suffered by having my stress level raised so high that it gave me high blood pressure and diabetes >:-0 Fortunately, it’s coming under control now, but for awhile there it was not so good. Now I sometimes have to wear glasses to read >:-( Really, there are far more important things in life than money…
